A Few Thoughts to my White American Friends

If you are ready to read them…

I’ve thought a lot about writing this one. It’s been a culmination of all the anger, grief, and rage I felt when I read that after the Uvalde mass shooting, there were 17 new shootings within a week in the US…

The days after the mass shooting in Uvalde I was scrolling on social media reading the comments of my white American friends, making posts about stricter laws on gun control, calling their senators, and pushing them to enact change; I was shocked.

I exclaimed, “You can’t be that naive!”

As a white non-American, and observer of how the world is set, I could never find a difference between the Democratic and Republican parties in the US. Both parties have been backed by the NRA (National Rifle Association), started new wars for the sake of selling more guns, making the US richer and the first power worldwide in the process; destroyed whole countries, and left millions of refugees looking for a place to call home and they are still doing it.

Last year when most of my white American friends were celebrating the election of Biden and Kamala, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and it did. Biden doesn’t have the balls to bring change in the US. It seems to me that he can’t or maybe he doesn’t want to go against the system that brought him to power.

If you stop for a second, pause your everyday life, and take a critical look at the news in the US you might realize something horrific; something that the US fought to stop in other countries but has been happening systematically within its borders.

In 1999, in a region far away from the US, called “the Balkans”, once upon a time president Bill Clinton, a Democrat, brought NATO, and stopped the ethnic cleansing of the people of Kosovo.

However, no one seems capable to stop what’s been happening in the US. Instead, it’s been dubbed as “another mass shooting”, people affected grieve, and eventually, life goes on until it happens again and again and again…

It’s time to properly name this situation.

What’s been happening inside the US is a systematic ethnic cleansing of PoC (People of Color) by the pawns of white supremacy.

And I wonder my dear white American friends, when are you going to wake up and divorce America?
